Dr. Pete believes in giving back to the community and is involved with many organizations throughout Denver. He donates time and services for charitable causes and also sponsors one of the finest women’s cycling teams located right here in Denver, Colorado. What began as a small women’s cycling club in 2006 in Kansas City has grown to a Denver-based organization which includes a 14-woman pro/1/2 squad, a CAT 3 team and a large developmental CAT 4 team, as well as a multi-state co-ed. Megan Hottman, the team’s founder, is also in the running for the 2012 Olympics women’s cycling team.

Megan Hottman, 31, was born in Gettysburg, SD and currently lives in Golden, CO. She earned a B.A. in Corporate Communications and her J.D., both from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. A long distance cross-country/ track runner in high school, and a marathoner /triathlete in college, it was not until her final year of law school (2003) that she discovered the sport of cycling. That same year she also met her now-husband, Rob Helton, at a bike race. He was an experienced cyclist and began teaching her the ropes. With his help and coaching, she quickly moved from a CAT 4 (beginner) in 2004, to CAT 1/pro status in 2008. She began racing on the track in 2007, winning the state championship and qualifying for nationals her first year.

The dream of competing in the Olympic games has been in her heart for years. In December 2009 she committed herself fully to the prospect of seeing her Olympic dream through. Part of this decision meant starting her own law practice so that she could control her work schedule, allowing her to train and race more extensively. Hottman also decided to discontinue running her women's elite cycling team and club (Treads.com/DFT), in order to free up time demands and decrease stressors. This paved the way for her acceptance of a spot on the new 2011 Primal Professional Women's road cycling team. Hottman is very excited about this new team and feels it will be a perfect compliment to her track racing goals.

Following track nationals in September 2010, Hottman will embark on international (UCI) competition in the winter of 2010 competing in Manchester, Melbourne, Cali and Beijing in track events. To do so, she formed her own UCI track team, the Treads.com/DFT Professional Cycling team.

Hottman knows that the journey to her ultimate dream of Olympic competition will be difficult and that there are very formidable adversaries who have more experience and deeper history in the sport than she does. However she's fully committed to doing the hard work and putting in the hours, to see her goals through.
